JBMusic

Lesson Information and Student Policy

JBMusic offers beginning, intermediate and advanced musical instruction on all instruments. Beginning and intermediate students receive a 30 minute lesson of concentrated instruction once each week. Lessons are scheduled Monday through Thursday between the hours of 2:00pm and 8:00pm and Saturday between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm. Lessons are scheduled on the half hour, with lessons beginning and ending on the hour and half hour.

Some lessons may not be immediately available. JBMusic maintains a waiting list for students in such cases and will notify the student when the requested instructor and time slot is available. One hour lessons are also available at additional cost. JBMusic also offers workshops and ensemble classes at various times throughout the year. In addition, students are given the opportunity to perform in recitals throughout the year.

Cost of Tuition, Payment Policy and Terms of Payment

Tuition Rate
Beginning and Intermediate Students: $75.00 per month * (weekly 1/2 hour lessons), regardless of number of lessons per month or past lessons missed. Full payment for tuition is due on or before the first lesson of the month.
*Tuition does not include books and other materials.

Late Fee/Returned Checks
Late payments must include a $10 late fee if not paid by the 15th of the month. A fee of $30.00 will be charged for returned checks.

Registration and Family Discount
Registration is paid directly to JBMusic at the time of enrollment. All new students pay a one time registration fee of $30.00. Returning students are required to pay $10 registration when resuming lessons after an absence of greater than one month. A registration discount is given when more than one student enrolls from the same immediate family. Registration for the second family member is $25.00. The third and every subsequent family member is $20.00.
The registration fee is used to cover studio expenses including equipment, music, and other supplies. This fee also reserves a student's place in the studio and on the schedule and recognizes the student's commitment to his/her music lessons.

Calendar
JBMusic tuition rates are based on 48 lessons per year (4 lessons per month x 12 months). This allows for four lessons to be given annually at no charge to the student in compensation for lessons missed due to holidays and store closings. Credit and/or refunds for missed lessons will not be given.

Summer Lessons
Don't forget that summer lessons are available and strongly recommended. Those students who take the summer off may need up to a month of review before beginning new material.

Tardiness, Missed Lessons and Rescheduling

Tardiness
The scheduled lesson time belongs to the student. For that reason, it is the responsibility of the parent and student to be ready to begin the lesson on time. Lessons may not go over the allotted time.

Cancellations & Makeups
Makeup Lessons are generally not given; However you may request a makeup lesson from your teacher for special circumstances. These requests will be granted at the teacher's discretion based on their availability and studio space.

Holidays and Store Closings
During holiday weeks, all lessons will continue as scheduled except for those that fall on these holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve Day. The tuition amount for these months will remain the same as in other months. JBMusic will be open all other holidays during the year, including Syttende Mai.
In the event of severe weather, please call JBMusic for information regarding your lesson.

Studio Usage
In addition to the student's private instruction time, studio facilities at JBMusic will be made available to enrolled students for rehearsal and study use. Please call to schedule the use of an available studio throughout the week. Food and beverages are not allowed in any of the studios at any time. Only one student (under age 18) per studio will be allowed without adult supervision.

Student Practice and Parental Involvement

Instruments and Books
Each student will need a quality instrument to practice on in the home. Guitars should be in tune for lessons, and pianos should be tuned on a regular basis. Many instruments are available to rent through JBMusic. Books must be purchased separately from JBMusic by teacher recommendation.

Home Practice
Daily practice is strongly encouraged. To help develop self-discipline and good work habits, a regularly scheduled practice time should be set aside each day for the student to review lesson material and practice new skills.

JBMusic's Practice Recommendations

  • Years 1-3:  30 minutes/day
  • Years 4-6:  40 minutes/day
  • Years 7 and above:  a minimum of 60 minutes/day

Parents
It is the responsibility of the parent to see that home practice and written assignments are complete. Parents should read and check over the student's notes, as well as speak to the instructor on a regular basis. Please feel free to contact the instructor or Jim Brown with questions, concerns, or problems. Parents are encouraged to attend their child's lesson on occasion to observe his/her progress.

Termination of Instruction
The student or instructor may terminate lessons at any time with written notification two weeks in advance of the termination date. However, refunds from monthly tuition payments are not given. The logical time to terminate instruction is at the middle of a given month. Registration will be terminated for students who fail to give the required two weeks notice.

As in any educational service, the most valuable resources are the clients and the patronage they provide. In order to provide the best service to clients and staff, the policies of JBMusic must be observed.
